About Doklar
Doklar is a free service that helps you understand German official letters and reply to them correctly.
It started from a simple observation: bureaucratic German is hard even for native speakers, and for people who have just arrived in Germany, a single misunderstood letter can turn into a real problem — a missed deadline, reduced benefits, unnecessary worry.
Why we're doing this
We're not a big company — just a small group of people who've seen first-hand how much stress a letter from Jobcenter or Finanzamt can cause friends, neighbours, family.
When modern AI language models became good enough to reliably translate bureaucratic German into plain language, the idea was obvious: why not make this tool available to everyone — free, no sign-up, no hidden costs?

How Doklar works
A photo or PDF of a letter — from Jobcenter, Finanzamt, a company, or any other sender.
We explain in your language what it's about, what's required, and by when.
We draft a suitable letter in proper formal German, or help you fill in an official form.
After processing, your document is gone. We keep no account, no history, no database of your letters.
🤖 Which AI we use
Doklar runs on language models from Anthropic (the makers of Claude) — one of the leading AI companies, known for its focus on safety and responsible AI use.
We use a cascading model filter: simple documents are handled by a fast, cost-efficient model. If a document is identified as complex — many legal references, multiple deadlines, large sums — Doklar automatically switches to a more capable model that reviews the text more thoroughly. This keeps the service free for everyone without losing quality on difficult cases.
In addition, a second, independent AI pass checks every generated letter before it's shown to you: do all the numbers and dates match the original document? Is nothing claimed that you didn't state? Only once this check passes do you see the finished letter.
🔒 Your data
- Your document is sent to the AI model only to generate the explanation or reply letter. We don't keep a copy of your letter.
- There's no account, no login, no tracking with advertising cookies.
- Our servers are located in the European Union.

Doklar is not a substitute for legal, tax, or medical advice. We explain the content of a document and help you phrase letters, but we don't make decisions for you or assess legal chances of success.
For complex or high-stakes cases, we recommend also consulting an advice centre, lawyer, or tax advisor.
